When people hear the term Capsule Wardrobe, I think assumptions are made. When I first heard about them, I assumed they were something like a big box full of new pieces for every single season. Basically like getting a full new wardrobe every season, every year. Boy was I wrong! And the more I learned about them, the more I realized that they were exactly how I approach my own wardrobe…which is why I started creating them for all of you. I believe they can make getting dressed and feeling put together a heck of a lot easier than most women think. In an effort to shed some light on how they work, I thought I’d do some myth busting with you all this week!
Let’s play a little True or False……Capsule Wardrobe Style
Capsules are expensive: FALSE.
The capsule can actually save you a bunch of cash! One, you’ll have a specific list of items you need/want to buy. Just like you make a list to go to the grocery store. You won’t be grabbing items you don’t need. AND, my capsule gives all kinds of options for spending less if that is something you are looking for.
I’ll have to buy a whole new wardrobe: FALSE.
Totally False! I actually want you to find pieces in your wardrobe that you want to keep and can incorporate into the capsule. The goal with the capsule is to teach you how to build outfits and refresh your wardrobe based on what you want and need after editing your closet. It’s not a complete overhaul. And the more times you do it, the less you’ll need each season because I also show you how to take pieces from season to season ;)
I’m not a _______ (you fill in the blank) a professional, fashionista, mom so a capsule isn’t for me. FALSE.
Here’s the beauty about the capsule...it’s versatile. It’s designed for all different types of jobs or roles you are in. It’s meant to help you head into the office, or to chase toddlers at the park. It’s meant to help you transition from day to night or from work to play. There really is something for everyone. And the pieces play well together so you can absolutely build outfits that aren’t in the capsule if they feel more like you that way.
Now that we’ve cleared that up, here’s another sneak peek from the capsule. This look might be my favorite! What do you think? It’s classic with a side of sass. It’s comfy with an edge. It’s warm but not bulky. I’ve basically been living in this look since I got this pullover for Christmas. AND can you believe these leggings are on their 3rd season? They look brand new still!! Yet another vote for investing in a solid foundational wardrobe. When you buy the right pieces, they last for YEARS because they are high quality and they don’t go out of style within a year.
